TriStar Southern Hills earns A in patient safety from national Leapfrog Group

McDowell Hospital has earned the desirable "A" grade for safety from the Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U. "This A-grade is a reflection of longstanding commitment by staff, physicians and hospital leadership to keep our patients in the forefront and best-practices in place for exceptional outcomes".

Coastal Carolina Hospital scored a "C" from spring 2014 through spring 2016, but jumped up to an "A" on the last three reports. A total of 74 hospitals received grades A through F.

There were no reported F grades in the entire state. "This is a significant achievement and we're tremendously proud of our medical providers and staff".

Both Douglas and Paulding hospitals consistently receive top scores, the release stated.

Fawcett Memorial Hospital's B grade was unchanged, as were C grades for Blake Medical Center and Venice Regional Bayfront Health, and a D for Bayfront Health Port Charlotte. Washington hospitals ranged from A-D.

The biannual 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades report shows the safety grades of hospitals in five states - Oregon, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Wisconsin and Idaho - have improved significantly since Leapfrog first issued grades in 2012.

Leapfrog says you can use the ratings to find hospitals that prioritize patient safety, meaning hospitals got better grades if they had track records for preventing hospital-acquired infections, hand washing, stopping bed sores, training doctors, communicating about prescriptions and more.

WellStar's Douglas and Paulding hospitals were two of just 14 hospitals in the state to receive an "A" ranking.
