Trump recalls little of Russian Federation meeting

The March 24, 2016 email in question was highlighted in the plea agreement Papadopoulos entered into after lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about the extent of his contacts with individuals like Joseph Mifsud, a London-based professor of diplomacy who allegedly spent months trying to connect Papadopoulos with Russian officials. So how does this new information that he was in this room, that he knew about this, how does this complicate situation for Jeff Sessions? The trip was "completely unrelated to my limited volunteer role with the campaign and as I've done dozens of times throughout my life".

Blumenthal wrote Sessions that he should "immediately come before the Senate Judiciary Committee to update [his] testimony and correct any omissions and any statements that may have been incorrect or misleading".

Sessions' failure to disclose those meetings ultimately led to his recusal from the Justice Department's Russian Federation investigation, and functioned as one of the many missteps that triggered the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) on Friday slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions for not telling him the truth during his January confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and again in October during a separate congressional hearing.

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times.

Sessions is also under pressure from his boss, who has made clear he thinks the Department of Justice should look into his former presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, and her campaign's behavior with the Democratic National Committee during the presidential primary race. He also testified that he was "not aware" of anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicating with the Russians.

A source familiar with Sessions' comments to Congress told ABC News the attorney general "has been entirely truthful and consistent on this matter".

It is the latest example to emerge of a Trump aide meeting with Russian officials during the 2016 election after initially denying that such contacts occurred.

"Ultimately, whether or not he committed perjury, will be again, I believe, Bob Mueller's call", Franken said.

"He needs to clarify his testimony before our committee", Judiciary Committee member Sen. Trump denies any collusion with Russian Federation and Moscow denies interfering in the 2016 US election.

"He may still have technically answered the question correctly", said Representative Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat. Lindsey Graham asked Sessions: "Did you ever overhear a conversation between you and anybody on the campaign who talked about meeting with the Russians?"
