Texas county commissioner tells @NBCNews "there are a lot of fatalities" at church shooting, estimating 24 dead.

At least 20 people were killed and many more were wounded when a gunman walked into a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, and began shooting at parishioners.

President Donald Trump has tweeted from Japan that he is monitoring the situation in Texas following a mass shooting at a church.

To the martyrs of Southerland Springs: Remember God is our comfort, God is our patience.

The shooting occurred at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County, about 40 miles (65 km) east of San Antonio. "Our thanks to law enforcement for their response", he tweeted, promising more details "soon".

CT will update this post as more details become available.

Keeping all harmed in Sutherland Springs in our prayers and grateful for our courageous first responders on the scene.

U.S. media report children were among the victims.

A Twitter Employee 'Inadvertently Deactivated' Trump's Account on Last Day at Work
Twitter initially posted a statement saying the "account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee". Twitter has come under fire from critics who say the company should banish Trump for violating its terms of service.

The FBI is responding to the scene of the shooting, according to Michelle Lee, spokeswoman for the FBI's San Antonio field office. He said that the gunman was dead and that he did not know how many people had died.

It is unclear if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life, Mr Murphy said. He added that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is on the scene.

Eight of the wounded were transported to Brooke Army Medical Center and and seven others to area hospitals.

And it came just over two years after a white supremacist, Dylann Roof, entered a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, and shot nine people to death.

A neighbour said the shooting happened just before noon local time at a time when there were about 50 people at the service.

Pictures and video on social media show a large police and paramedic presence.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, and some victims were evacuated by helicopter.

A sheriff's department dispatcher says everyone is at the scene and unavailable to comment.
