The nearly decade-long drama first began at the 2009 VMAs, when Kanye stormed the stage during Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video, took the microphone away from her and told the audience the award should have gone to Beyonce for "Single Ladies". With over 10 million streams, it is the most-streamed song in a one-day period ever, the lyric video for "Look What You Made Me Do" broke the standing record with over 19 million views, while the music video shattered the original most viewed video (28 million) record with 43.2 million views in only 24 hours.

On This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, she sings, "Friends don't try to trick you / Get you on the phone and mind-twist you / And so I took an axe to a mended fence".

Her Twitter has also been overflowing with tweets and retweets about her new album, Reputation in a bid to promote her work.

With an album title like Reputation, fans speculated whether the entire album would be a vindictive screed aimed at Swift's enemies.

The most obvious Kanye-related song Swift released was "Look What You Made Me Do", which pushed the stars' feud back into the public eye just in time for the release of her full album. It gets worse before it gets better, though, with the ill-fated Ed Sheeran and Future collaboration "End Game".

Then, it's West's turn.

"There I was giving you a second chance, But then you stabbed my back while shaking my hand", she sings. "But I'm not the only friend you've lost lately / If only you weren't so shady".

"This is why we can't have nice things, darling", goes the chorus.

With lyrics like "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason" and "With three of us, honey, it's a sideshow", the song seems to reference the several months in 2016 when Swift parted ways with Calvin Harris and dated Tom Hiddleston immediately after, before eventually splitting with him too. "/ This is why we can't have nice things".
