Philippine's Duterte says he killed someone at age 16

CNN adds that Duterte told the story of "maybe" killing someone as a candidate for president in 2015.

In the 16 months that Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has been in office, law enforcement officials in the country have reportedly killed almost 4,000 people in an unprecedented crackdown of illegal drugs.

In a defiant speech hitting back at critics of his deadly drug crackdown, Duterte said he would go into jails and have "rumbles here, rubles there".

MANILA-President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for Beijing's aid in response to the Marawi crisis.

"By saying that I will destroy you or kill you, that is not a conspiracy".

Across town, protesters from the militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) rallied outside Trump Towers, claiming the USA president had the intention of using the Philippines' territory to install more American military bases and that his heightened involvement in the country's affairs could drag them into war.

It is not the first time the Philippines leader has claimed to have killed someone.

"And, according to my soldiers, the arms that you sent are very accurate and they were able to take care of the snipers that abounded and I lost more..."

Senior White House officials have said Mr Trump will reassure Asean that the USA has not forgotten South-east Asia, even as he pursues an "America First" policy that has allowed China to broaden its influence in the region.

Talks on expanding trade and security relations between the two countries were first discussed during their first bilateral talks at the sidelines of the 2016 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit held in Peru.

Their meeting, alongside Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, was captured in a photograph by Bong Go, special assistant to Duterte.
