Donald Trump Asks China President To Resolve UCLA Basketball Arrests

UCLA players LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill have been forced to remain in China as the rest of their team flew back to the U.S. Theft of this nature is taken much more harshly in China than it is in the United States, and these players are finding that out the hard way.

A USA media report says President Donald Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to personally intervene in the case of three American college basketball players who were arrested on shoplifting charges last week in Hangzhou.

That may have led to some legal help too. Trump will claim that China has agreed to remove barriers to the American financial sector in the Chinese market; but Xi's promises aren't ironclad. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that Trump and Xi talked about the case. The source also said there is surveillance video that shows the players allegedly shoplifting from three stores.

Police arrived early Tuesday morning at the Hyatt Regency in Hangzhou, where both UCLA and Georgia Tech were staying ahead of their matchup in Shanghai.

Stabbing Confirmed at Mall of America
Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman of Minneapolis , CBS Minnesota reports. The two stabbing victims were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Trump will return home and say the trip was a huge success, while Xi will believe the home field advantage really works. He reportedly said that his son's arrest was "not a big deal". Chinese lawyers told Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel last week the UCLA basketball players could serve between three and 10 years in prison, but the USA official told Nakamura their charges have been reduced.

The family is now filming a reality show called "Ball in the Family" and recently started an athletic apparel company, Big Baller Brand, "inspired by the Ball brothers".

LiAngelo Ball declined to comment when reached by phone at his hotel on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
