It's customary for the president to host title-winning NCAA teams.

Said Staley on behalf of the team in a statement, "We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow's event, but we will not be able to attend".

"We did hear from the White House about attending (Friday's) event, but we will not be able to attend", SC coach Dawn Staley said in a statement Thursday night.

Each team - 18 in all - had won an N.C.A.A. championship, and on Friday each arrived at the White House to be recognized by, and photographed with, President Trump. The University of North Carolina's 2017 national championship men's basketball team said earlier this year it could not agree on a date for a visit. By last month, a frustrated Staley told the Associated Press she wasn't even sure the Gamecocks would go to the White House even if they did receive an invitation. "I don't know what else has to happen".

Trump tweets against Al Franken: 'Where do his hands go?'
She bluntly turned down a suggestion that Trump's actions be examined, as Franken's will be by the Senate Ethics Committee. Sanders added the president backed the Republican National Committee's decision to withdraw resources from the Moore race.

SC won the 2017 Women's NCAA Tournament, but isn't going to the White House. "I got bigger fish to fry than worry about an invitation".

Trump hosted the 2016 NCAA football champion Clemson Tigers at the White House in June.

The Golden State Warriors had an invite, but it was later rescinded by the White House when President Donald Trump tweeted that star guard Stephen Curry was "hesitating" in deciding whether to make the traditional champions' trip to Washington. She also defended her team's move.

He whacked a volleyball with the Ohio State men on the South Lawn, called attention to a Maryland lacrosse player wearing a Trump '16 tie and mimicked a rifle with his hands as he approached West Virginia's coed rifle team.
