However, the producers of the film, Viacom 18, have indicated that the release of the film in the United Kingdom will be "in line with the India release".

"We can't allow our history to be distorted".

"If historical facts are distorted, and if anything is shown or said in the movie against the respect of the country's mother Padmavatiji, then that movie can not be allowed to release in the land of Madhya Pradesh", Chouhan said.

"The film has been cleared by the British censor board without any cuts".

The uncertainty over the film's release notwithstanding, the decision of the BBFC, however, did grant members of the Twitteratti to take swipes at lumpen elements, BJP leaders like Suraj Pal Amu and self-proclaimed guardians of Kshatriya pride like Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi who have been protesting against the movie across India.

A local court here on Thursday accepted a complaint against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and others in regard to ongoing controversy relating to their forthcoming film "Padmavati".

After months of intimidation and protests, the producers of the movie, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, issued a statement Sunday announcing its December 1 release date had been "voluntarily deferred", sparking concerns over issues relating to freedom of speech in the world's largest democracy, according to CNN.

Moreover, the CBFC has recently sent back the film to its makers citing "technical deficiencies". The director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has clarified there will be "no romantic scene or song or dream sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji". After those two incidents, protests against the film nearly went silent.

The film is in the eye of a storm following protests from conservative groups over alleged tampering of historical facts, a contention Bhansali has denied repeatedly.

Padmavati has been in trouble since the beginning of the year, with fringe groups in the western state of Rajasthan attacking the film's set, threatening to burn down cinemas that show it and even physically attacking Bhansali.
