Miss Universe 2017 is a management graduate

Rachel Peters, the Philippines' bet in this year's Miss Universe missed the chance to win the crown when she failed to make it to the final five. Peters-Nel helps train women in self-defence moves through a programme she started called Unbreakable.

The new Miss Universe, during an interview question at the pageant, revealed her disabled half-sister inspires her and she is her most significant motivator.

"As Miss Universe, you have to be confident in who you are as an individual".

"If women take hands and stand together, we are unbreakable", said the 22-year-old representative from South Africa, "and we can say no to the things that are wrong in the workplace, at home or wherever you might go".

She loves making handmade cards and is a lover of scrapbooking.

Born in Bahrain, Peters is the daughter of Annie Obregon, a Filipina from Bicol, and Nigel Peters, a British national.

South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters won the crown while Colombia's Laura González Ospina was first runner-up.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Miss South Africa 2017 is crowned Miss Universe on Sunday, 26 November from the AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Contestants from over 90 countries around the world competed in the beauty pageant hosted by Steve Harvey and model Ashley Graham.

Peters shows off her curves during the competition's swimsuit portion. Her gown is adorned with crystals and feathers.
