Today marks Giving Tuesday, a movement that was begun in 2012 by technology website Mashable and other primarily technology companies and organizations as a counter to the commercialism and consumerism that has overtaken the holidays. The day was started in 2012 by the 92Y, a cultural center in NY, and the United Nations Foundation in response to growing commercialization and consumerism of the holiday season.

Black Friday has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year across North America and Giving Tuesday was started as a way to promote giving, as opposed to getting.

Earlier this year, a private donor pledged to match every dollar, up to $100,000, donated to services aimed at helping seniors and low-income pet owners. In addition, locals participating in the #MyGivingStory contest through sharing a story about how an organization impacts the community positively can help that chosen non-profit can win a grand prize of $10,000. That makes donations from individual supporters more important than ever. They are hoping that well-known North Country generosity will bolster their resources as the year draws to a close. "Just anything that somebody would like to give, it really adds up".

What would millennials know about donating to charity?

When pressed again, she replied that the review was under the jurisdiction of the House Ethics Committee. The longest-serving member of the House has denied the claims against him.

The Federal Trade Commission says avoid any charity that refuses to provide detailed information about its identity or how the donation will be used.

Taylor thinks the survey results reflect a time of declining trust and urged charities to be open about how their funding is used.

The Press-Republican has always recommended donating to local charities and nonprofits, which usually have lower overhead and administrative costs and get more of the money directly to those in need.

As it is Giving Tuesday, now is the flawless time to think about helping others.
