Ole Miss Gets Hit By NCAA

The Committee on Infractions said the case was similar to other Ole Miss rules violations cases in 1986 and 1994 and that the school had an "unconstrained booster culture".

More about the booster issue: "The football program was able to involve boosters in violations because MS fostered a culture that enabled unconstrained and undeterred booster involvement in the recruiting process".

Ole Miss officials are hoping that the NCAA tosses out the testimony of Mississippi State linebacker Leo Lewis, who told NCAA investigators that he received between $13,000 and $15,600 from an Ole Miss booster while the Rebels were recruiting him. "We will vigorously appeal the additional postseason ban".

After the dust had finally settled on the NCAA's five-year investigation into Ole Miss, the Rebels stood accused of 15 Level I violations, including the dreaded lack of institutional control.

Flu Vaccine Saved 40,000 Lives During 9 Year Period | Seasonal Influenza (Flu)
To create a vaccine for each flu strain, manufacturers grow billions of WHO-selected viruses in chicken eggs, STAT reports . The Centers for Disease Control estimates there are between 3,000 and nearly 50,000 flu related deaths each year.

Because of the additional year of the postseason ban, Ole Miss players now can transfer without penalty, meaning they can leave and be eligible immediately elsewhere. The Rebels got a new bowl ban, financial penalties, a loss of scholarships and individuals have also been penalized.

Every coach mentioned in the Notice of Allegations received a show-cause penalty of some timeframe, including former head football coach Hugh Freeze (one year), former assistant athletic director for high school and junior college relations Barney Farrar and former assistant David Saunders, who worked for former coach Houston Nutt and was most recently at Louisiana-Lafayette (2011-14). Some of them are more significant than others, ranging from former staffers allegedly fixing ACT scores to get recruits qualified for the football team to recruits allegedly hunting on boosters' private land. The show-cause is directly related to the NCAA investigation into recruiting violations. The 41-year-old led the Rebels to a respectable season, including an Egg Bowl win over rival Mississippi State last week.

Freeze resigned over off-field issues - including allegations that he repeatedly made phone calls to escort services - in July.

Needless to say, the school plans to appeal by next week, Bjork said. Matt Luke was named the permanent head coach on Sunday after serving on an interim basis throughout the 2017 season.
