According to report, filming for the biopic has been taking place in the United Kingdom for weeks, but its director has been off the set for more than a week already, prompting Fox to halt the production. However, the movie's Christmas Day release might become untenable since after 20th Century Fox halted production on the biopic last week, listing Bryan Singer's "unavailability" as the vague reason, and now the studio has officially fired Singer from the film, as of Monday night. Sacha Baron Cohen was set to play Mercury, but quit after arguments with Queen band members, while Dexter Fletcher was originally set to direct but quit in 2014 over "creative differences". Cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel would apparently fill in for him, handling production in Singer's absence.

"Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody", Twentieth Century Fox said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, who is now describing the set as having descended into "chaos". In addition, Rami Malek, who is playing Queen front man Freddie Mercury, filed a complaint that declared that Brian Singer was unprofessional, unreliable, and absent from the set too much.

Singer appeared to have completely checked out when, after the Thanksgiving break, he just didn't return to set. Things apparently reached a boiling point when Rami Malek and Singer got into a nonviolent confrontation that ended with the director throwing something.

According to THR, the studio only has about two more weeks left of principal photography on the film, but is still expected to name a directorial replacement for Singer in the coming days.

With principal photography almost complete, the studio is reportedly still planning to release Bohemian Rhapsody on the originally scheduled date - December 25, 2018.
