Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent more than $3.2 million in the opening months of his federal criminal investigation into Russian interference in last year's us election and whether President Donald Trump or anyone close to him colluded in it. The subpoena is part of a probe by special counsel Robert Mueller and his team to determine whether the president's campaign was involved in Russian efforts to influence the USA election.

Germany's largest bank received a subpoena from Mueller several weeks ago to provide information on certain money and credit transactions, the person said, without giving details, adding key documents had been handed over in the meantime.

USA investigators are said to be demanding information on dealings linked to Mr Trump as part of an investigation into alleged Russian influence in the United States presidential election, according to Handelsblatt and Reuters.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's office spent $3.2 million during the first few months of his investigation into Russian election interference and possible coordination with associates of President Donald Trump. "We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources".

Mueller was appointed in May after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who had been leading the investigation.
