Winter is in the air and so is flu season, especially in the South.

"Are doctors who administer the vaccines supposed to earn spiritual merit", she asked, in a sarcastic reference to comments by Premier William Lai (賴清德) in October asking caregivers to look past their low salaries and regard their work as a way to earn spiritual merit. It is spread when a person who has the flu coughs, sneezes or talks, and droplets containing the flu virus are inhaled into your mouth or nose. Remember: The flu is contagious so you will be helping others as well as yourself.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By the end of the year, the CDC declared an epidemic, with more than 20 deaths in just a few weeks before Christmas that year.

"Flu is increasing. We're seeing a pretty steep increase in influenza activity across the U.S. but especially in the South", said Brendan Flannery, a co-author of the new report and an epidemiologist in the CDC's flu division.

"The absolute best thing you can do to prevent illness, hospitalizations and even death from flu complications, is to get your flu shot", said Dr. Levine.

Tonda Francis, vice president of Regional Coordination and Clinical Initiatives at the Health Collaborative, said the rate of employees who are terminated for refusing flu shots is low.

County health district officials in Reno said Thursday both victims were 80 years old and both were at risk for complications of the flu due to underlying medical conditions.

Senate confirms new DHS chief
Nielsen's nomination to lead the DHS, this Senate will take a serious step to strengthen our nation's security. Prior to that, Nielsen served as Kelly's chief of staff at DHS when Kelly was secretary of that department.

Health officials say is important for those experiencing flu-like symptoms to consult with a health care provider as soon as possible.

Flannery explained that the journal article looked at Australia's most recent flu season and highlights the low vaccine effectiveness against one type of influenza: the H3N2 strain predominating in the USA today.

It is impossible to contract a case of flu from the vaccine.

The CDC says that hospitalizations and outpatient visits because of the flu cost people more than $10 billion a year.

But she said it's too early to predict what strain will predominate or how severe the season will be.

Dr. Allison McGeer, director of infection control at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, said lab testing in Ontario is turning up "quite a lot of B isolates, almost as many Bs as H3N2".

This year's vaccine uses strains recommended by the World Health Organization in February: A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and B/Victoria.
