United States participation in the Pyeongchang Games came under question this week as a result of "miscommunication" from the White House, but according to the leader of the U.S. Olympic Committee, Scott Blackmun, there will be a team competing "unless it's legally or physically impossible".

And White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders followed that sentiment almost 24 hours later when she said the White House had not yet decided whether the USA will participate or not.

She also said that if invited to the White House after the Olympics she would decline. "The protection of Americans is our top priority and we are engaged with the South Koreans and other partner nations to secure the venues". "No, I actually I think every US Team member is invited so no I won't go".

White House says United States 'looks forward' to participating in Winter Olympics
Haley said the Trump administration would try to "find out the best way" to protect American athletes participating in the Games. Of course, NBC exercises no editorial oversight of my writing for Business Insider.

During the White House press briefing Thursday, Sanders initially reiterated Haley's comments, saying there had been "no official decision" made on if American athletes would attend the Winter Games. We have always talked about keeping our athletes safe. This is no different, and we are looking at the circumstances just to make sure we're doing everything we can.

Previously, Haley said that it was "an open question" whether the United States would send its athletes to South Korea in view of a security threat in the wake of Pyongyang's missile launches. "I think there was just some miscommunication there rather than anything meant to be substantive or send a message".

Early this week it was announced Russian Federation would be banned from taking part in the Olympics after "systemic manipulation" of anti-doping rules.
