The police said one of them was identified as Ali, a Jaish-e-Mohammad operative from Pakistan.

As per local sources, the militants were trapped in the house of one Muhammad Yakub.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian forces killed the youth during a violent search operation in Wanipora area of the district.

The encounter continued throughout the night after the 44RR, 14 Bn of CRPF and SOG cordoned off the area after inputs about presence of three militants in Batmuran.

Police officials said that the "anti-militancy operation" was stopped after a heavy exchange of fire due to darkness and extreme cold.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir police, two terrorists were trying to escape with the help of some locals, but security forces opened fire on them during which the terrorist duo along with a civilian was killed.

The police claimed that the killed militants were "involved in a number of militant incidents including the recent attack on the vehicle of J&K Bank near Poju Shopian on 11th of December 2017 in which two bank guards were killed".

At least 210 militants have been killed this year - the most since 2010 - amid a military campaign to rout armed groups resisting Indian rule in the divided Himalayan region.

The police said that the woman died in the crossfire between militants and forces during the encounter.

Locals alleged that Ruby aka Beauty Jan was hit by a bullet during the clashes. "The cordon was strengthened and the civilians of nearby area were evacuated", a police spokesperson said. Security forces used explosives to blast the house in which the militants were holed up.

Two force personnel including an army man and a police man were also injured during the encounter.

"Their condition is stated to be stable".
