2G Scam Verdict: Propaganda against UPA without foundation, says Manmohan Singh

By the letter dated November 2, 2007, Raja had specifically informed the then Prime Minister about processing of large number of applications in the backdrop of inadequate spectrum, clearly mentioned availability for 2G services and had also categorically recorded that auction of spectrum was considered by TRAI and Telecom Commission and auction was not recommended. In a similar way, corruption had happened and the trial court verdict deal with the guilt of the accused.

Javadekar told reporters that the CBI had filed it in 2011 when the Congress-led UPA was in power.

It said that it was not clear from the record whether the note was seen by the then prime minister or not.

Javadekar likened the case to a murder case, saying somebody has been killed but guilty has to be found.

Each allocation was quashed as arbitrary and unfair, he said, adding that the criminal case was launched on the Supreme Court's order, he said.

He said the PM has put the Congress in a dilemma as it desperately wants to discuss issues like Rafale, Jay Shah, the agrarian distress and ill-effects of demonetisation and GST, but at the same time it can not drop the matter of the PM's insinuation against Dr Manmohan Singh.

Cuban leader Raul Castro will stay in power past February
Castro will be replaced when his successor is chosen by a top governing council, Cuba's National Assembly has agreed. Initially, Feb. 24 was the date set for when the National Assembly would meet and pick the country's next president.

The UPA government had fixed a price of Rs 1,734 crore per licensee, the finance minister said.

"Sh Pulok Chatterjee ought to have taken note of these facts in his earlier note dated 06.01.2008 itself, but he did not do so for the reasons best known to him and placed only a partial view before the then Hon'ble Prime Minister regarding spectrum related issues", the court notes in another page.

It was proved by the fact that they had got bank drafts prepared on back dates, he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress, he said it had become so desperate that it was seeing a win in its loss in assembly polls and now finding vindication in the 2G case verdict.

Asked about the dichotomy in the Congress stand in the two Houses of Parliament, Sharma said: "There is no difference; passing supplementary grants (budgetary allocations) is a constitutional requirement".

"It was not A Raja, but Pulok Chatterjee, in consultation with T K A Nair, as he had suppressed the most relevant and controversial part of the letter of A Raja from the then Prime Minister", Special CBI Judge OP Saini said while acquitting all accused in three separate 2G spectrum cases.
