But in an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich (as reported by CBS Boston), Celtics president Danny Ainge assures that the 90-second video tribute for Thomas won't take away from Pierce's big night. Since Thomas didn't play, he asked the Celtics to push his tribute video back until when he's active.

Thomas has said it is up to the Celtics to decide whether they want to honor him during the February 11 game.

Despite all the noise he's made after leaving the team, Thomas is still deserving of his tribute, and Ainge did the right thing by granting Thomas' request. The Celtics went on to win 102-88.

The Celtics may now be wishing they had denied Isaiah Thomas's request and honored the Cavaliers guard when he visited Boston on Wednesday, in his first game back at TD Garden since being traded to Cleveland in the offseason. At 25-13, Cleveland is now sitting in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, 4.5 games back of the 31-10 Celtics.

Pierce was rather emphatic about not wanting to share the spotlight with Thomas. The video tribute ain't the whole night. Like, I just wanted my family to be here to see it. I wanted to be able to play, and I wanted my family to experience the love and appreciation this city and this organization was going to give me on that night. I'm not taking nothing from Paul Pierce. I know people. I don't know why they're so mad about it.

"I'm not saying Isaiah shouldn't get a tribute video.but on February 11, the night I get my jersey retired, I'm not sure I want to look up at the Jumbotron and see Isaiah highlights", Pierce said on ESPN's The Jump (via ESPN.com's Chris Forsberg).

"I.T. might have to wait 'til next year", Pierce added on ESPN's The Jump. "And my family and friends can see how much they appreciated me here". "I would be honored".
