Jaish's IED attack kills 4 cops in Sopore

Four policemen were killed on Saturday morning when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated by suspected militants in Baramulla's Sopore.

No terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

"The IED was planted beneath a shop", Greater Kashmir quoted an unidentified official as saying. Soon after the attack army and paramilitary forces launched searches to nab the attackers. The policemen were from the 3rd Battalion of Indian Reserve Police. She tweeted, "Pained to hear that four policemen have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore". JeM said its "Afzal Guru Squad" carried out the attack. The deceased have been identified as ASI Irshad Ahmad from Doda, Muhammad Amin from Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi from Sopore.

Witnesses said the powerful blast near Gole Market ruptured bodies of the slain policemen, destroyed five shops, and partially damaged three other shops. They had asked people to give decent burial to the ultra.

Jammu and Kashmir police took to Twitter to confirm the blast and number of policemen killed in the blast. "May the four courageous J&K police personnel killed in the line of duty today rest in peace", Abdullah tweeted. Valley police chief Munir Ahmad Khan said his officers needed to "put our heads together and chalk out new strategies to tackle" the return of the bomb.
