Ford F-150 Diesel Is Actually Good On Gas

The F-150's new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 has 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque and delivers a maximum tow rating of 11,400 pounds.

Another reason why the 3.0-liter V6 ticks all the right boxes is the transmission it's paired with, the 10-speed automatic co-developed with General Motors. The engine shares the same graphite iron block material and forged steel crank used in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost.

Fans were hoping that Ford would offer the Ford F-150 with a diesel engine under the hood and it looks like their dream come true after all.

Ford's first diesel-powered 2018 F-150 pickup can deliver an EPA-rated 30 miles per gallon in highway driving, which would put it among the most fuel-efficient pickups available when it goes in sale in the spring.

"The more you tow and the longer you haul, the more you'll appreciate its class-leading towing and payload capacity and how efficient it is at the pump".

In his final TV role in 2015, Jerry Van Dyke reprised his role on " The Middle ", guesting alongside his brother, Dick. It wasn't until he landed the role of Luther on Coach in 1989 that he gained prominent fame.

Diesel also is an option on rival Ram and Nissan full-size trucks, which means Ford is playing some catch up in that size class, though its F-150 is the nation's best-selling vehicle.

For the diesel engine itself, Ford's engineers have been cherry-picking components from the Super Duty's 6.7-liter version.

"We're confident we'll get there", Ford vice-president of powertrain engineering David Filipe said in a media briefing ahead of the official launch announcement. That makes sure the F-150 makes the most of its low-rpm torque, for instance. Deliveries start in the spring, and the downside is, only the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels are available to retail customers with the diesel engine. The diesel model will be offered on the XL model and the XLT model and will be offered with both extended and double-cab bodies.

Ford says dealers will open order books for the diesel toward the middle of this month, but you may want to prepare for some price shock.

Adding the diesel option gives F-150 buyers six choices of engine, and the company expects about 5 percent of F-150 buyers will choose diesel. In more moderate conditions, the engine control system uses a viscous coupler to back down the fan's load, and close the two shutters on the radiator for better aerodynamic efficiency, as well as reduced parasitic engine loss.
