Major fire breaks out at court in India's financial capital Mumbai

A fire broke out on the third floor of the sessions court building this morning, an official said, adding that no casualty or injury was reported, though some official records were gutted in the blaze.

As per initial information provided by the fire officials, the fire was confined to the ground-plus-one Cine Vista studio and to its electric wiring, studio instrument etc. By the time fire engines reached the spot in around 15 minutes, the fire had spread over a ground plus one building, and had covered nearly 3,000 sq ft.

The fire has now been doused.

After one hour of struggle, the fire was brought under control with no reports of mishappening in the incident. The incident comes a day after another fire broke out at the Cinevista Studio in Kanjurmarg area of Mumbai.

According to a sessions court official, the judges presided over their respective courts as usual from 11 am.

"We received a call at 8.25 pm. Nearly 150 people had been evacuated", said deputy chief fire officer Shyam Kharbade. On December 28, fire engulfed the top floor of the Kamala Mills Compound and claimed the lives of 14 people including 11 women and left several others injured.

On January 3, four people, were killed and five injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in Mumbai's Andheri (East).
