AAA: Gas prices up in RI, Mass. due to cold weather

GasBuddy is projecting the national average gas price this Christmas to be $2.39 per gallon, a 12-cent drop since Thanksgiving, but the priciest Christmas in four years.

Gasoline costs continued to inch higher last week, rising by just more than 1 cent in the Houston area and about a half-cent nationwide.

Alter City Group building facility coordinator Joselito Espino said he usually spends $75 on gas a week.

State of Tennessee- $2.26, up 1.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.25.

According to the Energy Information Administration in last week's report, oil inventories tumbled by 7.4 million barrels, leaving them almost 55 million barrels under a year ago.

When it comes to gas prices, the good news is that they've been dropping in recent weeks.

Chattanooga gas prices on Sunday were 7.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and 48 cents per gallon more than two years ago.

The per-gallon price of gas was $3.48 early in 2016 before it started going up in October that year until it reached $3.93 in December 2016.

Severe winter weather put a strain on the US energy grid, but low consumer demand for gasoline left the price at the pump stable, market reports found.
